The foam problem is everywhere in industrial production. Traditional defoamers mostly rely on chemical substances such as silicone oil, mineral oil, or polyether, which are effective but also have issues such as poor environmental friendliness and residual pollution. In recent years, with breakthroughs in nanomaterial technology, nano-titanium sol has quietly become a “green innovator” in the field of defoamers, providing the industry with a brand-new solution.
Nano titanium sol is a colloidal system with nano titanium dioxide (TiO₂) as its core component, dispersed in water or organic solvents, with a particle size of only 5-10 nanometers. It features an extremely high specific surface area and excellent surface activity. Its defoaming principle is primarily manifested in the following three aspects:
Disrupting surface tension balance
Nano titanium sol particles rapidly diffuse across the liquid surface, reducing surface tension at the liquid-gas interface through physical adsorption, disrupting local surface tension balance, causing the liquid film to flow toward high-tension areas and thin out, ultimately “tearing” the foam. Its high dispersibility ensures uniform distribution in liquids, avoiding uneven local defoaming effects.
Photocatalytic decomposition of organic matter
Under light irradiation, the photocatalytic properties of nano titanium sol can generate hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and superoxide ions (O₂⁻). These active substances can break down organic components (such as proteins and oils) in foam, reducing foam formation at its source.
Physical adsorption and coverage
Nanoparticles can adsorb onto the surface of bubbles to disrupt their stability. At the same time, their superhydrophilicity (surface contact angle approaching 0°) accelerates the spreading of liquid on the surface of bubbles, causing them to burst quickly.
