Efficacy 
Vitamin C is a representative melanin production inhibitor. On the one hand, it can participate in inhibiting melanin production, and on the other hand, it can also reduce existing melanin in the stratum corneum, effectively removing acquired melanin deposits and achieving a whitening effect from multiple angles. In addition, vitamin C is an antioxidant that can neutralize harmful free radicals, protect collagen, and exert antioxidant and anti-aging effects.

Disadvantages 
When used as a cosmetic ingredient, vitamin C is unstable, particularly prone to oxidation, and difficult to store and apply.


Based on the above, scientists have made continuous efforts to develop different types of vitamin C derivatives by changing the molecular structure of vitamin C to make it more stable, helping vitamin C to better penetrate the skin to exert its effects while maintaining its stability. Common vitamin C derivatives include 3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbyl Glucoside,  Ascorbyl Tetra-2-Hexyldecanoate, and other vitamin C derivatives.

3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbic Acid (EAC)  
3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbic Acid is a lipophilic and hydrophilic amphiphilic vitamin C derivative that not only retains the antioxidant properties of vitamin C but is also highly stable, making it a color-stable vitamin C derivative. As an amphiphilic substance, it is highly versatile in formulations, easily penetrates the stratum corneum to reach the dermis, and is broken down by enzymes to exert its vitamin C functions, enhancing its bioavailability. Additionally, it effectively neutralizes free radicals and protects against free radical-induced aging damage, achieving antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. It also possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects, promoting collagen production and improving skin elasticity and smoothness.

Ascorbyl Glucoside (AA2G) 
Ascorbyl Glucoside (AA2G) is more stable than traditional ascorbic acid (AA) in cosmetics and has higher hydrophilicity. By inhibiting tyrosinase activity, it can significantly reduce melanin formation. It also has UV damage protection properties, significantly reducing free radicals generated by UV exposure and skin damage, and plays a protective role in sunscreen products.

Ascorbyl Tetra-2-Hexyldecanoate (VC-IP) 
Ascorbyl Tetra-2-Hexyldecanoate (VC-IP) is an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative that inhibits tyrosinase activity. Its high stability and resistance to oxidation give it antioxidant, melanin-inhibiting, and skin-lightening properties. It is easily absorbed by the skin and is used in cosmetics as an antioxidant, skin-lightening agent, spot-removing agent, and moisturizer.
