Copper is a ductile metal with excellent electrical conductivity, and its total consumption ranks second only to aluminum among non-ferrous metals. Copper powder, as an important copper material, has a wide range of applications in many industrial production fields.
The properties of copper powder are closely related to its particle size. As the particle size decreases, the properties of copper powder change, especially for nano copper powder with a particle size distribution range of 1–100 nm, which exhibits significant changes in its optical, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, and chemical properties. Due to these outstanding properties, nano copper powder has been widely applied in many fields such as high-energy catalysts, lubricant additives, conductive materials, and toughening materials.
Catalyst
Nano copper powder possesses the unique physical and chemical properties of transition metals, exhibiting strong adsorption capacity and high surface activity. It can be used alone or in combination with other precious metals, demonstrating excellent catalytic performance. By adjusting properties such as morphology and particle size, micro and nano copper powder exhibits excellent catalytic activity as a highly efficient catalyst in automotive exhaust treatment devices, as well as in dehydrogenation and hydrogenation reactions of polymers in the metallurgical and petrochemical industries, and in the polymerization of acetylene.
Conductive Material
Micro and nano copper powder combines excellent conductivity with low cost, making it a viable replacement for precious metals such as silver as a conductive filler. It can be used to produce green, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient conductive adhesives and coatings. In addition to providing effective electromagnetic shielding, micro and nano copper powder can prevent electromagnetic pollution issues that arise during the use of traditional conductive coatings.
Medical Antibacterial
Various metals and their oxides with antibacterial properties are classified as antibacterial materials. Micro and nano copper powder has antibacterial and bactericidal properties second only to micro and nano silver. In addition, it is easy to prepare and has low biological toxicity, making it an ideal material for medical antibacterial applications.
