Moisture must be isolated, as contact with air can cause severe hydrolysis to produce HCl and TiO ₂, resulting in white smoke.
Titanium tetrachloride (TiCl ₄) is a highly hydrolyzed and corrosive colorless or slightly yellow liquid, and its storage must strictly follow the following conditions:
Moisture prevention and sealing
Moisture must be isolated, as contact with air can cause severe hydrolysis to produce HCl and TiO ₂, resulting in white smoke.
Corrosion resistant sealed containers (such as glass or lined with anti-corrosion coating) must be used, and the packaging must be completely sealed.
Environmental control
Store in a cool (temperature not exceeding 30 ℃), dry (relative humidity ≤ 75%), and well ventilated warehouse.
Stay away from sources of fire and heat, and avoid volatilization or reactions caused by high temperatures (boiling point 136 ℃).
Isolation storage
Store separately from oxidants, alkalis, active metals, edible chemicals, etc., and avoid mixing storage.
The storage area needs to be equipped with emergency equipment for leaks (such as containment materials).
Security management
Some authoritative sources suggest implementing the "five pairs" management system for extremely toxic substances (two person receiving and sending, two person transportation, etc.).
Industrial grade products are usually packaged in 200 kg/drum or 25 kg/drum, ensuring that the minimum order quantity meets safety standards.
Additional precautions
If stored for a long time, it is necessary to regularly check the container's sealing and environmental parameters.
Handle with care during transportation to prevent packaging damage.
