As an inorganic functional material, titanium suboxide is widely used in various chemical industries.
As an inorganic functional material, titanium suboxide is widely used in various chemical industries, such as electrode materials, electrolytic oxidation wastewater treatment, traditional lead-acid batteries, new energy batteries, cathodic protection & corrosion prevention, pigments, etc.
Electrode Materials:
Due to its exceptional chemical stability and corrosion resistance, titanium suboxide remains highly stable in both strong acid and strong alkali environments, outperforming the majority of commonly used industrial electrode materials, including its parent material, titanium metal. Titanium suboxide maintains stability even in strong etching solutions that can corrode titanium metal, such as fluoride and hydrochloric acid. 40% sulfuric acid or oxalic acid can severely corrode titanium metal, but titanium suboxide remains almost inert.
Electrolytic Oxidation Wastewater Treatment:
Titanium suboxide can be widely used in the electrocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and landfill leachate, electrocatalytic treatment of phenol wastewater, dyeing and printing wastewater treatment, oilfield wastewater treatment, hospital wastewater treatment, electrolysis of seawater for hydrogen production, seawater desalination, electrolysis of water for disinfection, and ozone production.
Traditional Lead-Acid Batteries:
The bipolar lead-acid battery using titanium suboxide is 40% lighter and 20% smaller than traditional lead-acid batteries, with a 40% increase in energy density, significantly extending its service life. Additionally, bipolar batteries are more environmentally friendly. During production, reducing lead usage by 50% can cut carbon dioxide emissions by 80%.
New Energy Batteries:
Titanium suboxide can improve the formability and utilization rate of cathode active materials. Adding a small amount of titanium suboxide fibers to automotive flat plate batteries can increase the capacity of these batteries by 15-17%.
Cathodic Protection & Corrosion Prevention:
Titanium suboxide can be widely used in marine engineering and chemical equipment for cathodic protection and corrosion prevention for its high conductivity (superior to graphene), acid and alkali resistance, UV absorption, high thermal stability, excellent dispersibility in water and resins, strong coloring power, environmental friendliness and non-toxicity, .
Pigments:
The conductivity of titanium suboxide (especially Magnéli phase titanium oxides, such as Ti₄O₇) makes it suitable for use in the preparation of antistatic or conductive pigments. In addition, titanium suboxide is used in coatings and inks to provide electrostatic dissipation functions (such as in electronic device casings and explosion-proof environments). Furthermore, it can replace traditional carbon black conductive pigments to achieve dark or black conductive coatings with superior weather resistance.
