Nano titanium dioxide has physical properties characterized by fine particles with diameters below 100 nanometers, exhibiting antibacterial, UV-blocking, photocatalytic, and self-cleaning properties.
Nano titanium dioxide primarily exists in two crystalline forms: anatase and rutile. Rutile-type titanium dioxide has higher hardness, density, dielectric constant, refractive index, coverage, and coloring power. Anatase-type titanium dioxide has lower UV absorption capacity than rutile-type but higher photocatalytic activity. Under certain conditions, anatase-type titanium dioxide can be converted into rutile-type titanium dioxide. Nano titanium dioxide has physical properties characterized by fine particles with diameters below 100 nanometers, exhibiting antibacterial, UV-blocking, photocatalytic, and self-cleaning properties.
Sterilization
Under the action of ultraviolet rays, nano titanium dioxide can produce strong oxidative free radicals, effectively killing various bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells. For example, adding nano-titanium dioxide to paint can produce antibacterial and anti-fouling paint with sterilization, anti-fouling, deodorization, and self-cleaning properties.
UV Protection
Nano titanium dioxide can both absorb and reflect/scatter UV rays while allowing visible light to pass through, making it an efficient physical UV shielding agent. Its UV protection capability is related to particle size, and the smaller the particles, the stronger the absorption of mid-range UV rays, resulting in better sunscreen effectiveness. Additionally, compared to other organic sunscreens, nano titanium dioxide is non-toxic, stable in performance, and highly effective.
Photocatalysis
Under the action of ultraviolet rays from sunlight or artificial light, nano titanium dioxide is activated to generate free radicals with high catalytic activity, producing strong photo-oxidation and reduction capabilities. This enables the decomposition of organic pollutants such as formaldehyde and benzene, purifying indoor air. Additionally, it can degrade organic and certain inorganic substances in water, such as dyeing wastewater and pesticide residues, achieving wastewater treatment and environmental purification.
Anti-fogging and self-cleaning
Under sunlight, the nano titanium dioxide film exhibits superhydrophilicity, causing water droplets to spread evenly across the surface into a water film, thereby preventing fogging. Additionally, its photocatalytic effect can decompose organic pollutants, keeping surfaces such as glass and tiles clean.
Others
Nano titanium dioxide has a degrading effect on plastics, freon, surfactants, etc., and can also absorb harmful gases such as acidic and alkaline gases.
