2025-06-23
As an efficient and green photocatalyst, nano titanium dioxide shows great potential in the environmental and energy fields.
In today's society, environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious, and finding efficient and green solutions for environmental treatment has become an important issue for researchers around the world. As a semiconductor material with unique photocatalytic properties, nano titanium dioxide is leading a green revolution in the environmental protection industry.
Technical Advantages
Nano titanium dioxide has high catalytic efficiency, and its nanoscale particle size (10 - 100nm) increases the specific surface area, reduces the chances of compounding, and improves the quantum efficiency. At the same time, it is chemically stable, non-toxic and low cost, making it suitable for long-term use. In addition, it possesses redox capability and can treat complex pollutant systems.
Challenges and Directions for Improvement
Despite its many advantages, nano titanium dioxide face a number of challenges. For example, it only absorbs UV light (5% of sunlight) and needs to be doped (e.g., N, Fe) or constructed into heterojunctions (e.g., TiO₂ / SiO₂) to broaden the spectral response. In addition, its high dispersion results in high separation cost, which needs to be solved by load immobilization (e.g., ceramics, glass) or magnetic composite. For the slow degradation of low-concentration pollutants, a combination of adsorption and membrane separation is needed to improve the treatment efficiency.
